Pharmacology

1. Pharmacology of Chinese herbs: Xia Ku Cao, listed as the lower product in Ben Jing, contains: "Mainly used for cold and heat scrofula. Taste and meridian: Pungent, bitter, cold. It belongs to the liver and gall bladder meridians.

Functions and Indications: Clears liver and fire, brightens eyes, disperses knots and reduces swelling. It is used for redness and swelling of the eyes, night pain of the eyes, headache and dizziness, scrofula, gall tumor, lactic carbuncle, lactophilia, breast swelling and pain.

Note: Use with caution in weak spleen and stomach.

2. Modern pharmacological research anti-tumor research involves various aspects.

Inhibition of tumor cell proliferation, induction of tumor cell apoptosis, research on the invasive ability of tumor cells.
Xia Kuo Cao can inhibit the proliferation of many kinds of cancer cells; the effect of JNK and Akt pathway; affect the cell cycle of tumor cells; down-regulate bcl-2 and up-regulate bax; can increase the invasive ability of tumor cells. It has inhibitory effects on mouse sarcoma S180 and mouse cervical cancer U14. Aqueous decoction can inhibit the growth of Ehrlich ascites carcinoma.
Anti-hypertensive effect has an antagonistic effect on norepinephrine-induced vasoconstriction.
It has vasodilatory and blood pressure lowering effects.

Xia Ku Cao extract may exert its hypotensive effect on SHIR rats by decreasing angiotensin II content and elevating nitric oxide (NO) content.
Hypoglycemic effectThe aqueous extracts could reduce postprandial hyperglycemia in normal and tetraoxone-diabetic ICR mice. Bacteriostatic effect The bacteriostatic effect of different solvent extracts on the test strains was ethyl acetate > n-butanol > anhydrous ethanol > Chemicalbook water. The minimum inhibitory concentration of ethyl acetate extract was 2.5mg/mL for Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus, 5.0mg/mL for Escherichia coli and Rhizopus sp. The minimum inhibitory concentration was 10.0mg/mL for Aspergillus sp. The inhibitory effect of Xiaquanoxylin extract on Penicillium sp. was not obvious. The antioxidant effect of Xiaquan Cao extract has good antioxidant property. The order of scavenging ability of different solvent extracts and BHT was ethyl acetate extract > n-butanol extract > BHT > aqueous extract, the order of scavenging ability of -OH was BHT > ethyl acetate extract > n-butanol extract > aqueous extract, the order of scavenging ability of O2-- was ethyl acetate extract > aqueous extract > BHT > n-butanol The order of reducing power was BHT > ethyl acetate extract > n-butanol extract > aqueous extract.

The ethyl acetate extract of Xiaquan Cao has strong antioxidant activity. Immunomodulatory effectXiaquancha extract could enhance the cellular immune function of mice by up-regulating the gene transcription level.
Hepatoprotective effect

Xiaquan Cao has some protective effect on acute liver injury in mice caused by carbon tetrachloride, and there is no significant difference compared with bifenthrin. Other effects of Xiaquan Cao include cough suppressant and expectorant, inhibition of orbital fibroblast proliferation, prevention of urinary calcium oxalate stone formation in rats and hypolipidemic, antioxidant, sedative, hypnotic and antidepressant effects.
